Gaming at 4K is demanding, but a smart budget goes a long way.
Spend on the graphics card first
At 4K the graphics card does most of the work, so it should take the largest share of your budget. Video memory matters too, since high-resolution textures use a lot of it.
Be sensible with everything else
- Processor: a solid mid to high-end CPU is plenty. You rarely need the most expensive one for gaming.
- Memory: 32 GB is a comfortable target for gaming plus background apps.
- Storage: a fast NVMe drive keeps load times short. Add more capacity later if you need it.
- Power supply: choose a reputable unit with headroom for your graphics card.
Where to save
Extra lighting, extreme memory speeds and oversized cases add cost without improving frame rates. Put that money into the graphics card or a better monitor.
